50 days with ++KJS: Day 11

“A Cup of Starbucks”

I admit it: I love me some Starbucks!

 Bishop Katharine, in this essay, says that”…We’re asked to be like shepherds  for the other sheep around the world & in this land.

Usually we think of Jesus as the Good Shepherd in this parable. He is the Ultimate Shepherd. But as His sheep, we also have a responsibility to  tend to other sheep , sheep who might not necessarily be like our own flock.  She also says that we are called to love our neighbor sheep as ourselves & as Christ loves each of us.

We can & for the price of a cup of Starbucks’ finest brew two times per week, help alleviate the  national & world hunger crisis.  Even right here in our own communities & perhaps in our very parish families, there are hungry people.

Sara Miles took Christ’s commandment to ” feed my sheep” literally & started  a fresh food distribution ministry  out of her parish in San Francisco. Read her book_Take This Bread_ & see how  one former non-believer was fed by The Good Shepherd during her first experience of Eucharist & took that commandment literally out into the streets of her city.
