Vigil of Vigils: Holy Saturday

My priest says that the shortest & scariest service of the entire Church year the one during the morning of Holy Saturday. I believe him, but I’ve so far no experience of this service, since its held during the day on Holy Saturday. s a matter of fact, the Saturday day service is the only Triduum service that I do not attend every year.

The Saturday Easter Vigil, otherwise known as the Vigil of Vigils, is in my opinion the most wonderful service in the entire Book of Common Prayer. We kindle a fire in the parking lot of the parish{ and yes, we use a portable fire pit!} and take said fire on torches to the inside of the church. Then selected readers read stories from Scripture that basically tells the story of humanity’s salvation. This year I am reading the Genesis story of Abraham’s attempted sacrifice of his son, Isaac.

I’m excited. :O)
