Ashes to Ashes….

Today is Ash Wednesday, 2012.  For liturgical Christians, it is the day that we embark on a 6 week period of self denial & penitence in preparation for the Feast of the Resurection, known to most people as Easter Sunday.

the secular society does not understand why we liturgical Christians receive ashes on our foreheads on this day. I do not know what this rite means to anyone else, but for me it is a reminder of my own mortality. Ashes on my forehead are a powerful reminder  to ” remember that you are dust & to dust you shall return.” { BCP page 265}

Amen.
