Day One Recap

I made it!

After a hellish 6 and 1/2 hour delay in Atlanta, I made it safely to Pittsburgh. My godmother & one of my godsisters met meat Baggage Claim & the ride back to the Lake was fraught with a downpour! Due to the weather, we did not get back to the Lake until after 10 PM.

Anyhow, I slept in until 8:30 EST. I’m staying in the loft bedroom & using the basement bathroom, so keeping all o my stuff organized is a challenge.

I’ve discovered that there *are* some spots where I can get cell phone service. I’ve talked with Best Dude several times today{ he had the day off} The ONLY bad part about this sabbath time is that I already miss my Best Dude. Thank goodness for Email & cell phones!

Ths evening I even got to SWIM this evening. Boo-Yah!!

So far, its been a good sabbath.

where to go?

Finally, after about 6 years, I’ve earned a free flight on Delta.

My problem right now  is: where to go?

I’d LOVE to go to NYC in October, but so far have * not* heard back from my friend at General Seminary yet regarding these plans. So I am thinking that I’ll need  some altenate ideas.

Idea One: Home.  Autumn in  western PA, WV & eastern Ohio is lovely.

Idea Two: Retreat at St Leo Benedictine Abbey{ FL} & some quality time with Crystal & Mike.

My friends & family from up home are going to want me to make the resernations for PIT, & I would love to see them again..  Yet  I very much NEED a silent retreat  & now that I have a free airline ticket anywhere in the continental US, I’m also thinking that now is the time for a silent two-day retreat at ” my” abbey in St Leo, FL{ near Tampa}.  If I make this trip, I can also spend some days with my good friends  Mike & Crystal.  Another bonus is, I can see if I can make the ” Oblate’s weekend” at the abbey: something I’ve * never* done yet due mostly to the insane amount of money airline tickets  require.

Perhaps  am being ” called” to make this trip to St Leo Abbey?

I don’t know.  If I either go home for a Fall Break or make the trip to southwest Florida I’ll need to give up a chance to spend some time at General Seminary & NYC. Boo.

Choices…….stay tuned.

Off the radar….Til 29 June

I’ll be on vacation & therefore ” off the radar from tomorrow until 29 June. I’ll have limited Internet access, but for one whole week I’ll have no cell phone & ” very* limited Internet access at the Lake. I’m actually looking forward to a relatively technology-free vacation: I can relax & enjoy Austin Lake without worrying about oil spills,  the bad economy , ect as I tend to do in my  normal life in Florida.

Wait a minute…my life is not normal…I am not normal! Anyhow, y’all know what I mean. It does a body &  soul some good to get away from the  daily grind. I don’t travel well by airplane , so I don’t travel often., but when I do travel I find it  rejuvenating.

Austin Lake is my own personal Walden Pond & each year I go back here to  renew & refresh my soul.  Most of my best memories of  my teen years are from Austin Lake.

My priest, in one of his Wednesday homilies, talked about St Columba & ” thin places.  What is a ” thin place”?  According to St Columba,  one’s ” thin place”  is a place where one feels  closest to God.   One of my ” thin places ” is & always has ben the peaceful valley that is Austin Lake.

{Facebook friends, don’t despair: I’ll post pictures & updates to my Facebook  while I’m away as I can. }

Where is your ” thin place”?
